We are thrilled to announce that three of Middlesex Cricket’s young EPG stars have been named today in England’s Young Lions squad to take on Scotland and Ireland Men’s Under19s in a tri-series at Loughborough this month.
James Isbell, Sebastian Morgan and Samarjeet Singh are named in England’s sixteen-man squad for the tri-series which gets underway next Thursday.
All three of the players have excelled in Middlesex’s EPG sides in the last two seasons, earning themselves call ups to the Club’s Second Eleven.
Isbell, still just 17, has made six Second Eleven Championship appearances over the last two years, plus one in the Second Eleven T20 competition. Morgan, also 17, has also played across both Second Eleven formats for the Club, making three Championship and the T20 appearances over the last two seasons. Singh, 17, has broken into the Club’s Second Eleven Championship side, making three appearances this summer.
The three players have all recently been in action together for Middlesex in the ECB’s Under 18s County Cup campaign, when they narrowly missed out on silverware, losing the final to Yorkshire Under 18s last weekend at Kibworth.
Richard Halsall will step in as Head Coach in the absence of Mike Yardy, who will be part of the England Men’s coaching team during the white-ball series against Australia.
Halsall said: “It has been really exciting to see the development of the Under-19s this summer. We’ve seen a host of the squad from the Sri Lanka series go on to play first team cricket and that gives us an opportunity to expose more young players to international cricket in this series.
“I am really looking forward to taking over the reins as coach from Yards. We know we will need to compete from ball one against Ireland and Scotland and I am looking forward to seeing the squad show off their skills in this series."
