Middlesex Cricket can today confirm that Ben Geddes will join Middlesex, after Surrey announced last week that he would be leaving the Club upon the completion of his contract at the Oval.
The 23-year-old Epsom-born top-order batter will join up with the Middlesex squad upon their return for winter training at the start of November and has signed a three-year contract with the Club.
Geddes has been involved in the Surrey system since the age of nine, representing them through the age groups, before making his Second Eleven debut in 2019.
Since then, he has made a total of 29 Second Eleven Championship appearances for Surrey and has hit five centuries and a further five half-centuries, with each of those five hundreds coming in the last two seasons.
His professional debut for Surrey came in June 2021, in the T20 format of the game, with both his first-class and List-A debuts coming in July the same year.
In just his second first-class appearance he hit a hundred against Sri-Lanka A, hitting 104 in an opening stand of 221 with Ryan Patel at Guildford, and backed this up with another century two games later when hitting 124 against Kent in a County Championship Division One fixture at the Oval.
Despite this he has found opportunities in the first eleven hard to come by at Surrey, making only 8 first-class appearances, leading to his decision to join Middlesex this winter.
In List-A cricket he has made 27 appearances for Surrey since 2021, hitting seven half-centuries in that time, with his highest score of 92 coming against Yorkshire last season. He led Surrey’s Royal London Cup campaign as Captain in the 2022 season at the age of just 21.
Speaking of Ben Geddes joining Middlesex, Managing Director of Cricket, Alan Coleman, commented:
“We are absolutely delighted that Ben has agreed to join Middlesex, and he is a player that we have had an eye on, knowing what an outstanding young player he is.
“He is an exciting young top-order batter that has proven, with the opportunities he’s been given, that he’s got bags of ability and the potential to be a high-class performer at this level.
“It’s not often that a player of Ben’s ability comes available, and he has been highly sought after by a number of other counties, so we are thrilled that he will be joining Middlesex in the coming weeks.
“We can’t wait for him to join the playing group and wish him every success for a long and successful Middlesex career.”
Ben Geddes, on joining Middlesex, commented:
“Middlesex County Cricket Club have a great legacy and history in the game and a young and exciting squad with top quality coaches.
“I made the decision to move from Surrey to play more cricket and I couldn’t think of a better place to do that than Middlesex.
“I’m very determined to add value to the team and help drive the team forwards, develop as a player and embrace this exciting new challenge and chapter in my life.”
