There was plenty of silverware handed over at the Gtech Stadium, Brentford LAST on Friday evening as the Middlesex County Cricket League presented its League and Cup winners, along with the summer's outstanding players, with their richly deserved trophies at its End Of Season Dinner.
Ealing and Shepherds Bush were the two biggest winners as they walked away with the most prestigious prizes in club cricket in Middlesex. The two West London teams dominating 1st XI cricket in 2024 by finishing 1st and 2nd in the Premier League and playing each other in the 20 and 45 over cup finals.
Kristian Martin, the Ealing captain, was presented with the MCCL Premier Division trophy by Leus du Plooy, the Middlesex Cricket middle order batter. Ealing clinched their 12th title on a tense final day by defeating North Middlesex by 5 wickets. And it was just as well they did, for had they slipped up Shepherds Bush, who beat Crouch End by 123 runs, would have been crowned champions for the first time.
Martin was Ealing most successful bowler of the season, taking 44 wickets at an average of 19.5. Robbie White was the teams most successful batter, scoring 620 runs at an average of 47.7.
Shepherds Bush were rewarded for their outstanding season when Marcus Howard and Henry Blofield were invited to collect the Middlesex Cup and MCCL T20 Cup from du Plooy. The remaining 1st XI Cup of the season – the Middlesex Trophy – was collected by the Shahbaz Meer, the captain of Ealing Trailfinders.
