MIDDLESEX SIGN SOUTH AFRICAN SEAMER DANE PATERSON

MIDDLESEX SIGN SOUTH AFRICAN INTERNATIONAL SEAMER DANE PATERSON

Middlesex Cricket is today thrilled to announce that experienced South African seamer, Dane Paterson, will join the Club for the first half of the 2025 Rothesay County Championship campaign.

Cape Town-born, Paterson, 35, will join up with the Club for pre-season training at Merchant Taylors’ School and will remain with Middlesex for the opening seven matches of the four-day competition.

The right-arm quick has made seven Test appearances for his country – most recently in December 2024, when South Africa defeated Pakistan by two wickets in Centurion, where he picked up career best Test figures of 5 for 61 in the first innings and dismissed five of Pakistan’s top seven batters.

In total, he has made 19 appearances for South Africa across all three international formats, picking up 38 wickets, and in his first-class career has made a total of 167 appearances, picking up an impressive haul of 610 wickets at an average of just 23.59, with best-bowling figures of 8 for 52.

He joins Middlesex with plenty of experience in English conditions, having previously played for Nottinghamshire between 2021 and 2024, when he made 45 first-class appearances for the Trent Bridge based county, picking up 180 wickets at an average of 23.25.

Speaking of the additional of Paterson to Middlesex’s bowling attack, the Club’s Director of Cricket, Alan Coleman, commented:

“We are really pleased to get this signing secured as Dane is a player that will bring an enormous amount of quality to our pace attack and is someone that can make a real impact for us in the first half of the season.

“He has proven throughout the four-years he spent with Nottinghamshire that he has all the attributes needed to succeed in English conditions, and he brings with him a wealth of experience, built up over many years on both the domestic and international stages.

“We can’t wait to welcome him to the Club and are really looking forward to seeing him in Championship action in a Middlesex shirt.”

On joining Middlesex, Paterson himself, commented:

“It’s an honour to be joining Middlesex.

“I will do my best to give Middlesex the best chance of getting promoted back to division one again - where the Club belongs.

“I can’t wait to be playing at Lord's - such a prestigious ground and I’m just really excited about the challenge that lies ahead.”
