MITC HOLDS STREET TAPE BALL CRICKET COMPETITION AT FINCHLEY

MIDDLESEX IN THE COMMUNITY HOLD STREET TAPE BALL COMPETITION

Last Friday, 21st February 2025, Middlesex in the Community hosted 34 young Street Cricket participants at Middlesex's Indoor Cricket School in Finchley for a half-term Street Tape-Ball Cricket competition. The day was split into two competitions, with separate Under 12s and Under 15s competitions taking place.

The under 12s had four teams taking part in the competition with Haringey Chestnuts Street Club bringing three sides and Camden Dome Street Club bringing one. All teams had the opportunity to play each other once, in a round-robin format, across the day, in what turned into a tightly contested competition. With every side picking up a win throughout the tournament, the final result came down to a thrilling tie between Chestnuts B and Camden Dome.

In the under 15s competition, there were three teams who played each other twice to determine the winner. Twickenham Street Club were the eventual champions with a team of only 5 players which included a very willing and capable younger brother of one of the players. Haringey Chestnuts Street Club formed an “all stars” team who acquitted themselves very well, playing against older teams, and Camden Dome & Barnet Street formed a “super” team which was a real show of togetherness as they came ever so close to snatching victory at the end.

We were thrilled to be able to host this competition during half-term and engage such a large number of young people from across the county. To see such representation from the Middlesex Cricket community enjoying cricket during the holidays demonstrates the reach and impact of the Chance to Shine Street Cricket projects delivered by the Middlesex in the Community team.

The next stage of the competition will see two under 12s and two under 15s teams represent Middlesex at the regional competition, which will take place either in the Easter or May school holidays.

Thank you so much for all of the volunteers, support workers, parents, and coaches who made the day possible, and to each of the players who did themselves great credit on the day.

Keep an eye out for future opportunities!
