NATHAN FERNANDES SIGNS CONTRACT EXTENSION TO END OF 2027

NATHAN FERNANDES EXTENDS CONTRACT WITH MIDDLESEX CRICKET UNTIL END OF 2027

We are today delighted to announce that Nathan Fernandes has signed an extension to his contract with Middlesex Cricket and will remain at the Club until at least the end of the 2027 season.

The rise of Fernandes has been rapid, as it was only at the end of 2022 that he was awarded the Club’s Boys Youth Player of the Year Award at the End of Season Awards. This was quickly followed by him being awarded his first professional contract by Middlesex in November, as a rookie on a two-year deal at the age of just 18.

The left-handed top order batter and left-arm spinner made his white-ball debut for the Club in 2023 in the Vitality Blast against Surrey, picking up the wicket of Sunil Narine on debut in the first of his seven appearances in the competition that summer.

His red-ball debut came last year, in 2024, and he made an immediate impact, hitting a cultured century in his very first first-class innings for Middlesex – 103 off 213 balls against Northamptonshire at the County Ground in April.

He has since made a total of eight first-class appearances for the Club, seven List-A appearances, and seven Vitality Blast appearances, and at the end of the 2024 season was again on the stage at the Club’s End of Season Awards event, when he deservedly picked up the Men’s Emerging Player of the Year Award.

Speaking of Fernandes being awarded a contract extension and moving from a rookie to a full contract, the Club’s Director of Cricket, Alan Coleman, commented:

“Nathan is a rare talent, which he has shown since a very young age, all the way through our Youth Pathway and Elite Player Group system.

“His dedication to improving his game, to working hard, to listening, and to embracing whatever challenges are in front of him, make him a real pleasure to work with.

“He is an exceptionally gifted cricketer and is someone that will just keep improving.

“He thoroughly deserves this opportunity, and we are really looking forward to seeing how his game develops in the years to come.”

On signing a new full professional contract with the Club, Fernandes himself commented:

“I am very grateful for this opportunity that I have been given and I look forward to contributing to the future success of the club.”
