MARK STONEMAN TO WORK WITH MIDDLESEX WOMEN IN CONSULTANT BATTING COACH ROLE

Middlesex Cricket is delighted to announce that former Middlesex and England opener Mark Stoneman is working with the Club’s Tier Two Women’s squad as a Consultant Batting Coach.

Hampshire Cricket recently announced that Stoneman, 37, had signed a one-year contract to play for the south coast county in 2025, and he will work with Middlesex Women outside of his playing and training commitments at the Utilita Bowl.

Following the announcement that Marc Broom had been appointed as the Club’s first ever full-time Head Coach of Middlesex Women, Stoneman’s appointment as Consultant Batting Coach represents another significant stride forward for Middlesex Women in outlining their intentions to lead the way as a Tier Two side.

Having missed out on being named as a Tier One Women’s side in the ECB’s first allocation of counties to be awarded professional status in the newly restructured Women’s domestic set-up, Middlesex has laid out and embarked upon an ambitious five-year plan ahead of the ECB’s next draft date for revisiting the allocations, to ensure the Club is ready and sustainable as a Tier One county side well in advance of the timeframe proposed by the governing body.

Head Coach, Marc Broom, commented on Stoneman’s appointment:

“I have been nothing but impressed by the manner in which the girls in our group have responded to a change in leadership and a change in our expectations of them as cricketers.

“We’re asking much more of them than ever before and they’ve responded as I hoped they would, by throwing themselves into everything we’re asking them to do.

“Rocky’s appointment as our Consultant Batting Coach sends a massive message out that we are serious about growing as a side and underpins what we are saying to the girls in our group. His experience and quality as a coach will make a huge difference to helping what is a relatively young side progress that much quicker to where they need to be.

“I’m delighted to have him as part of the Women’s coaching group here, whenever he is available, and I am looking forward to seeing how the girls develop under his guidance.”

Mark Stoneman himself commented:

“I’m delighted to be back working with Middlesex again – and when time allows, I’m very much looking forward to helping the Women’s squad develop.

“We’ve got a really talented group of players here in the Middlesex Women’s side and I’m excited about working with them all to help them progress as a unit.

“My thanks go to Marc Broom and Alan Coleman for the opportunity and I’m really excited to be on this journey, as the Club starts a new chapter and looks to put Middlesex Women firmly on the map.”
