Middlesex Cricket is today delighted to announce that Sam Robson has been awarded a Testimonial Year in 2025 in recognition of his services to the Club.
The Sydney-born opener, now 35, made his debut appearance for Middlesex in the County Championship against Essex in June 2009 and has to date made a total of 252 appearances for the Club across all three domestic formats.
In first-class cricket for Middlesex, he is one short of making 200 appearances for the Club, hitting an incredible 12,518 runs at an average of 38.28, including 32 centuries and a further 49 half-centuries, with a highest career score of 253 - against Sussex at Hove in 2021. Robson’s run tally sees him sat in the top twenty highest first-class run scorers in Middlesex’s long and illustrious history.
He has three times passed the milestone of hitting 1,000 runs in a first-class season, in 2013, 2014 and 2021.
Across both white-ball formats, Robson has made 53 appearances for Middlesex, 46 in List-A cricket and 7 in the T20 format of the game. In List-A cricket he has hit 1,603 runs at an average of 38.16, including three centuries and 11 half-centuries, and a highest score of 111, whilst in T20 cricket he averages 25.60 and has a highest score of 60.
With the ball, Robson’s right-arm leg-breaks have yielded him 16 first-class wickets and 10 List-A wickets, with career best bowling figures of 4 for 46 – against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge in 2023.
Sam’s finest year with the bat came in 2013, when he hit 1,180 first-class runs at an average of 47.20, which saw him earn a call-up to the England Test side.
Seven Test appearances came the following summer, two against Sri Lanka and five against India, with Robson hitting a century on only his second Test appearance – 127 against Sri Lanka at Headingley.
Sam will be supporting two charities throughout his Testimonial Year, the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and the Felix Project.
Speaking of Robson being awarded a Testimonial Year this year, Middlesex Cricket’s Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Cornish, said:
“Awarding a player with a Testimonial Year is a special moment – done in due recognition of a player’s loyalty, commitment, and in acknowledgement of the efforts they have given for the Club. Sam is a more than deserving recipient on all fronts.
“He continues to be a fantastic role model and ambassador for Middlesex Cricket, as he has been for more than a decade and a half. He plays with passion, pride, and determination, leads from the front and gives his all for the Middlesex badge. We can’t wait to see more years of Sam Robson continuing to deliver for Middlesex.
“It gives us all an enormous amount of pleasure to reward him with a Testimonial Year this year and we very much look forward to supporting him wherever we can over the coming year. We wish him every success.”
Middlesex Cricket’s Director of Cricket, Alan Coleman, commented:
“It’s so pleasing to be able to reward Robbo with a Testimonial Year in 2025 and is something he thoroughly deserves.
“For many years he has been the rock at the top of the Middlesex batting order and is someone who inspires those around him – a real role model for our younger players to look up to.
He goes about his business in a quietly efficient, yet ruthless manner, and he’s someone that continues to score a heavy weight of runs.
Sam should be extremely proud of all that he has achieved in his career, and we’re extremely blessed to have him at Middlesex. We very much looking forward to seeing more of him at his best in the seasons to come.
This year will be a special one for him and gives his many supporters the opportunity to thank him for all he has achieved for the Club to date.
“I know I speak on behalf of everyone in wishing Robbo every success this year and here’s to a successful Testimonial Year.”
On being awarded a Testimonial this year, Sam Robson, commented:
“Having been a Middlesex player since 2008, it is a great honour to be awarded a Testimonial by the Club.
To play for such a famous club at the Home of Cricket is a great privilege and I am grateful for all the support I have received here by both the club and its supporters.”
