Middlesex Cricket is today delighted to announce that former Middlesex seamer, Harry Podmore, has returned to the Club, to work as Assistant Coach to Marc Broom, Middlesex Women’s Head Coach.
Podmore made his first appearance for Middlesex in the Vitality Blast, in 2014, picking up the wickets of former New Zealand opener Jessie Ryder and Essex Captain Ryan ten Doeschate on debut in Chelmsford.
This was the first of thirty appearances Podmore made for the Club before leaving to join Kent in 2018, where he played until 2022, before joining Glamorgan in 2023.
Podmore announced his retirement from playing the game in August of 2024, having played a total of 109 professional matches.
Since retiring, Podmore has been working with the Middlesex Men’s professional squad during this pre-season, and this week signed terms with the Club to become the Women’s Assistant Coach – a role he starts immediately.
Speaking of the appointment of Podmore as his number two, Marc Broom, commented:
“I am absolutely delighted to have Harry on board as my Assistant Coach and am really looking forward to working closely with him moving forwards.
“He brings real energy to the role, has some fantastic ideas, and having played the game at the top level for over a decade, brings a wealth of experience with him too.
“The girls in the group have already responded brilliantly to working with him, and his knowledge of the art of pace bowling will be an invaluable asset to the quicks within our group who are keen to learn from him and develop their games.
“Harry loves this Club, and that passion and enthusiasm comes out in every session, and his drive and determination to help us achieve our ambitions as a group is exactly what I was looking for in an Assistant Coach.”
Harry Podmore himself commented:
“I would like to thank everyone at Middlesex for giving me this opportunity and I have been made to feel so welcome by everyone since returning to the Club. It’s a place that is close to my heart and I’m a Middlesex boy through and through, so to be back working at the Club that means so much to me is really special.
““It’s an unbelievably exciting time for the Women’s game right now, and to be involved at this stage, with a hugely talented group of cricketers, is something that I am really enjoying.
“We’ve got some incredible talent in the squad, and I’ve been hugely impressed with the commitment the girls are showing in training and to their desire to improve.
“I’m really looking forward to helping the Club achieve its ambitions this year.”
