SIX-MONTH REVIEW | CHANCE TO SHINE

SIX-MONTH REVIEW | CHANCE TO SHINE

Middlesex in the Community have recently completed their six-month review with Chance to Shine and are very proud to share this summary of our work from September 2024 to February 2025.

Whilst we’re incredibly proud of these figures, we’re also pleased to report that this has been a significant period of development for our community coaches. We are thrilled to have welcomed Aryan Vadher (Community Coach- Apprentice) and Fionn Wilkinson (Community Coach - Street Cricket) to our team and both have settled in to delivery very quickly, already taking the lead on School and Street programmes. Meanwhile, Oscar Powell and Matthew Key have both recently completed their Apprenticeships (you can read more on this here) and Sajeewa Karunaratne’s work at Brent Young Adults Street Club was featured on Chance to Shine’s website.

We don’t want to sit back on this positive period however, and we are always looking for further ways to develop as a Community Coaching team. As part of this, it was fantastic to have Emma from DE Sports Provision join us at one of our recent team meetings to discuss coaching students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. Our coaches had the opportunity to reflect on their coaching practices and how they might make their sessions as accessible as possible for all participants. Emma shared some top-tips for all of our coaches to carry into their session delivery based on her own coaching experience in schools and answered our coaches' questions which included "what can I control in the school environment to make a space more accessible for children with sensory issues?" and "how can we influence a class to be accepting of all participants?".
