Today, we enter a new era - with the launch of Middlesex Women's squad for the 2025 season.
Middlesex Women will compete in Tier Two of the newly restructured Women's domestic structure, in the Women's Vitality Blast, the Women's Metro Bank One-Day Cup, and in the Vitality Women's T20 Cup knockout competition.
Today marks the start of a new era for Middlesex Women, as we take our first steps towards professionalisation, having first played List-A domestic cricket in the County Women's set-up in 1980.
The ECB's restructuring of the Women's domestic game, known as Project Darwin, has already seen eight counties awarded Tier One professional status, with the remaining 10 first-class counties competing in Tier Two - with their sights set on achieving professional status in 2029, when the ECB next review the allocation of Tier One status.
Yesterday, we announced that the squad would be led by Saskia Horley, who has been named as the Women's Captain for the 2025 season.
A squad of 20 has been named, with some familiar faces included, plus some names that will be new to Middlesex supporters of the Women's game.
On announcing the new Women's squad for 2025, Marc Broom commented:
"We've whittled down from a working group of 23 to a squad of 20 and the way the girls have embraced the new approach that we've asked them to embrace has been phenomenal.
"We've got a vision for how we want to play as a side, and the whole group have bought into this fully, and are committed to playing the style of cricket we want to play.
"Under Saskia's captaincy, we've got high hopes for how this group can develop, and are excited to get going."
Middlesex Women kick off with a warm-up clash against Essex Women at Chelmsford this Saturday, ahead of the opening clash of the new Women's Metro Bank One-Day Cup competition at Radlett on the Sunday 20th April.
