MARTIN RANDS

Biography

Martin Rands is an accountant by training, with a career that encompasses main board appointments in both privately-owned and publicly-quoted groups of companies, with a particular emphasis on marketing services, advertising and media ownership. It includes eight years as Group Finance Director of Osprey Communications PLC, where his responsibilities included managing the group’s acquisition programme.

He has many years of experience in corporate strategy, business development and financing and has been involved in a number of successful start-up and fledgling companies.Since 2005 he has worked at Third Generation Environmentalism Ltd (E3G), first as Finance Director and then Chief Operating Officer.During that time E3G has grown from a small startup company to become one of the world’s leading strategists on the political economy of climate change.Throughout its history, E3G has been responsible for a series of ground breaking reports, policy initiatives and coalitions to hasten the global transition to a safer climate. He continues to be a non-executive director.

Martin and his wife Liz reside in leafy Kew and have three grown-up daughters. He played cricket for Kew CC for almost thirty years, although now spends his spare time searching for lost golf balls and playing an average game of padel tennis.

He is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and holds a BA in Economics and Politics from the University of Manchester. He is Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and has been a full member of the MCC for over thirty years.
